Safehouse Academy exists to support children whose families are navigating uncertainty and fear around school attendance due to current immigration enforcement in the United States.
We believe every child deserves uninterrupted access to education—without having to choose between learning and safety.
Who We Support
We serve families who are temporarily keeping their children home from public school because attending does not feel safe right now.
Our program is designed for:
- Children who need short-term homeschooling support
- Families seeking a stable learning routine while prioritizing safety
- Students who benefit from compassionate, one-on-one academic support
Families do not need to disclose immigration status or legal details to receive help.
We are not affiliated with any government agency, school district, or immigration authority.
Why We Exist
Across the country, families are being forced to make impossible choices between safety and education. Children should never carry the weight of those decisions.
Safehouse Academy was created in response to this moment—to ensure that fear does not interrupt learning, curiosity, or hope.
This is temporary support for a temporary moment—but the care is real, and the commitment is deep.
What We Offer
Safehouse Academy provides free, volunteer-led academic support to help children continue learning at home until it feels safe to return to a traditional school setting.
We support families by:
- Helping children enroll in age-appropriate Khan Academy courses
- Providing online tutoring and academic coaching
- Supporting caregivers as temporary homeschool facilitators
- Offering flexible, trauma-informed learning plans
Our approach prioritizes consistency, gentleness, and trust over rigid schedules or testing.
Our Approach
Safehouse Academy is built on a trauma-informed model of learning. We understand that fear, stress, and uncertainty affect how children learn—and how families engage with education.
Our volunteers are trained to:
- Lead with patience and respect
- Meet children where they are academically and emotionally
- Create supportive, judgment-free learning environments
- Work collaboratively with families
